Government Accelerates Efforts to Establish Bangladesh as a Key Halal Product Hub in South Asia

Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), stated that the government is undertaking comprehensive initiatives to create a conducive environment for the halal economy and position Bangladesh as a significant halal product hub in South Asia.

He made these remarks while delivering the keynote speech at a seminar titled “Halal Economy 360: Driving Global Growth” held on Sunday at a hotel in the capital. The event was organized by the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI), where business leaders and policymakers engaged in extensive discussions on the current state and future potential of the halal sector.

Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud highlighted that most halal products worldwide are currently produced in non-Muslim countries, presenting both a major challenge and a golden opportunity for Bangladesh. He emphasized that with appropriate policies and coordinated efforts, Bangladesh can establish a strong foothold in this sector.

He further mentioned that the government has implemented various programs to enhance halal production and attract investment. Additionally, fostering effective partnerships between public and private sectors is essential to drive innovation and sustainable growth in the halal economy.
