China’s Firm Stance in Favor of Peace on the Ukraine Issue

Kang Shuang, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, called on all parties to resolve the Ukraine crisis politically during a review on the issue last Friday.

Kang Shuang stated that the Ukraine crisis has now reached a critical stage. All parties should strive to reach a political consensus to solve the problem and make further efforts. The conflicting sides should take initiatives to quickly calm the situation on the battlefield, demonstrate political will and flexibility, keep the door open for peace talks, and reach a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement through dialogue and negotiations. The international community, especially the parties with vested interests, should advance ceasefire and peace talks, create a positive environment for political resolution, foster favorable conditions, and provide necessary support.

Kang Shuang also noted that the United Nations Security Council has held three discussions on the Ukraine issue in the past seven days. All parties should spend time not only attending Security Council meetings but also devote more time and energy to mediation and promoting peace talks. China will continue to work for peace and play a positive and constructive role alongside the international community in the political resolution of the Ukraine crisis.
