Clash Between Police and Students at Secretariat Leaves at Least 40 Injured

At least 40 students were injured in a clash with law enforcement officers in front of the Secretariat in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred during a protest demanding the resignation of the Education Advisor. The injured have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Among the injured are Ashik (19), Rakibul Hasan (21), Asad Ahmed (18), Hasan (18), Afsana (18), Mugdho (19), Antor (20), Shakil (23), Shawon (19), Tansin (20), Siam (18), Mahim (18), Redwan Islam (20), Hasib (18), Nehal (20), and several others.

According to the injured students, they had gathered from various colleges to press their single-point demand — the resignation of the Education Advisor. While protesting in front of the Secretariat, police attempted to disperse them, leading to a violent confrontation. At one point, law enforcement allegedly fired sound grenades and tear gas shells at the protesters, resulting in injuries.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed, “Around 40 injured individuals have arrived from the Secretariat clash. They are being treated at the emergency department.”
