Chinese Premier Li Qiang visited the Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region from July 18 to 19, where he emphasized the full implementation of President Xi Jinping’s directives and the Xizang policies of the new era. He underscored the need to prioritize environmental protection, execute national key projects with high standards, cultivate region-specific industries, and ensure continued economic and social development for the benefit of all ethnic groups.
In Nyingchi, Premier Li inspected the Sejila Tunnel of the Sichuan-Xizang Railway, reviewed construction progress, and engaged with workers. He praised their efforts in overcoming complex geological and climatic challenges. Highlighting the railway’s importance for regional development and livelihood improvement, he stressed the need for top-quality and safe construction, scientific planning, and acceleration of support facilities like power and communication.
At the site of the Milin Hydropower Station and the Yani Wetlands, Li reviewed equipment and core samples, and received reports on hydropower development, technological research, resettlement, and environmental protection. He stressed that the lower Yarlung Zangbo River hydropower project is a landmark initiative with far-reaching impact. It must be constructed to the highest standards using advanced technology and must prioritize ecological preservation and responsible resettlement to balance development with public welfare.
In Lhasa, Premier Li visited the Cuishuicaina National Modern Agriculture Demonstration Zone, where he reviewed progress in agriculture, animal husbandry, and plateau biotechnology. He called for the expansion of modern agricultural technologies, breakthroughs in plateau seed research, development of branded agro-industrial clusters, and the cultivation of skilled modern farmers to accelerate rural prosperity.
He also inspected a major north-south afforestation project and encouraged local officials to mobilize all sectors of society to create a healthy ecological system that enhances people’s lives.
Premier Li praised the achievements of Xizang’s socio-economic development and urged officials to remember President Xi’s vision, foster a strong sense of national unity, and ensure progress in stability, development, environmental protection, and border security. He called for sustained efforts to build a modern socialist Xizang.
