World’s First AI-Designed Helmet Debuts in Cycling Race

At the Tour de France, the UAE-based team XRG recently created a groundbreaking fusion of technology and sports. On Tuesday, 8 July, they unveiled a cycling helmet designed using generative artificial intelligence technology-a first in professional cycling.

The helmet was jointly developed by Abu Dhabi-based AI company G42 and Italian helmet manufacturer MET Helmets. According to G42, the design was crafted based on scientific analyses of wind flow and aerodynamics, ensuring a balance of performance, safety, and aesthetics.

The 21-day race began on 5 July and will continue until 27 July, featuring some of the world’s best cyclists. Beyond their athletic performance, the UAE team is drawing attention for its innovative gear and technology. Alongside launching the new helmet, G42 has introduced an international design competition called “Helmetverse,” where fans can create helmet designs using AI tools. Participants can upload their designs to the Helmetverse website, where users will vote to select their favorites.
