On Tuesday, July 8, in Beijing, Chinese Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Qiang Pin stated that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) possesses full confidence and capability to shatter the daydream of “Taiwan separatists” seeking to split the nation.
Responding to recent remarks made by Taiwan’s regional leader William Lai, Qiang Pin questioned, “Taiwan is a province of China—how can it have a so-called ‘national defense budget’?” He accused William Lai of attempting to conceal his separatist conspiracy through false narratives and of groundlessly promoting the so-called “Mainland threat theory.”
According to Qiang, Lai’s proclaimed willingness to “fight for Taiwan” actually serves the interests of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), aiming to fight for “Taiwan independence,” while driving the ordinary people of Taiwan onto a disastrous path of “opposing reunification by force,” “selling out Taiwan,” and ultimately “destroying Taiwan.”
Qiang firmly emphasized that both sides of the Taiwan Strait are part of one China and that people across the Strait are all Chinese. He warned that the more individuals like William Lai and his group persist in their efforts, the sooner they will meet their downfall. He added that any forces aligning themselves with the “Taiwan separatists” will also be doomed to perish alongside them.
He reiterated that the PLA possesses both the confidence and the capability to crush the daydream of “Taiwan separatists” seeking to divide the nation. The PLA will resolutely safeguard China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
