Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Water Resources, emphasized the importance of collective efforts to preserve the environment and reduce plastic pollution. She stated that extensive youth participation is crucial to ensuring the success of anti-polythene initiatives. It is high time to phase out the use of polythene and polypropylene bags and promote sustainable alternatives for a healthier environment.
She made these remarks on Tuesday (January 21) while addressing as the chief guest at a certificate distribution event for volunteers involved in the anti-polythene campaign and the cleanliness drive at Kuakata Beach, organized by the Department of Environment at Agargaon, Dhaka.
The Advisor further noted that such initiatives not only protect the environment but also play a vital role in raising public awareness. She stressed the need to enhance individual and community-level awareness to safeguard nature. Everyone must come forward to encourage the use of environmentally friendly alternatives to polythene. She urged all to commit to leaving a clean and beautiful environment for future generations.
The event was attended by Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, as the special guest, along with Tapan Kumar Biswas, Additional Secretary (Pollution Control), and Dr. Md. Kamruz Zaman, Director General of the Department of Environment, among others.
During the program, the Advisor praised the volunteers who participated in the anti-polythene campaign and the Kuakata Beach cleanliness drive. She also distributed certificates to over a hundred volunteers in recognition of their efforts.
