An official of the Bengal Frontier of the Indian Border Guard Force BSF said yesterday that the construction of the fence on the Bangladesh-India border will be stopped for the time being to defuse the tension.
The Times of India reported that the BSF tried to put up a barbed wire fence in Baishyabnagar, Malda, West Bengal last Monday. But BGB of Bangladesh objected to this. Despite this, the BSF tried to build the fence again on Tuesday. However, after the flag meeting on that day, the construction work was stopped again. After that it didn’t start again.
A senior officer of the BSF South Bengal Frontier told The Times of India, “Since the construction of the fence is not necessary. So the construction work has been stopped to avoid unnecessary tension. It will start quickly. But we are not fixing any date.”
In a viral video on social media, mud bunkers have been constructed in a village in Chapainawabganj. Where BGB members are fighting. At that time, ordinary people can also be seen paying attention.
The BSF official claimed that there is no tension at that place on the Bangladesh-India border at the moment.
Bangladesh has a border of 2 thousand 216 km with West Bengal. 50 percent of which has no fence. Of this, 27 km of Malda’s 172 km border is unfenced.
The BSF official claimed that they started building this fence last year. But due to adverse weather conditions it was closed for several months. After that, every time he started working, he faced BGB obstacles. However, if the situation is normal, the construction work will start again, he said.
