To combat air pollution, mobile courts conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Department of Environment carried out drives in Dhaka, Shariatpur, Rangpur, Kurigram, Kushtia, Faridpur, and Madaripur.
Yesterday , fines amounting to Tk 46.8 lakh were collected from 18 illegal brick kilns. Chimneys of four brick kilns were demolished, and their operations were stopped. Additionally, orders were issued to shut down four more brick kilns.
In an anti-polythene drive, three mobile courts were conducted in Rangpur, Pirojpur, and Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. A total fine of Tk 3.09 lakh was collected through four cases, and 11,267 kg of polythene was seized.
A mobile court in Dhaka city fined nine vehicle drivers Tk 20,000 for emitting excessive black smoke. Several drivers were also warned.
For storing construction materials in the open, two establishments in Paltan and West Agargaon were fined Tk 22,000. Several others were warned.
The Department of Environment has stated that such drives will continue to ensure environmental protection.
