Mass protests in Syria over the burning of Christmas trees

Massive protests have erupted in Syria over the burning of Christmas trees. It calls on the country’s new Islamist authorities to take steps to protect minorities.

A video of a Christmas tree on fire in the main square of Suqaylabiyah town was posted on social media. Located in the central part of the country, this city is known for its Christian majority.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham HTS has already reported that some foreign fighters have been detained in this incident.

President Bashar al-Assad’s government was recently overthrown under the leadership of this Islamist organization.

HTS representatives pledged to protect the freedom and rights of Syria’s religious and ethnic minorities.

Footage circulating on social media shows two masked men setting fire to a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve.

In the video, it is seen that after the incident, the religious leader of HTS is trying to control the angry people in Sukaylabiyah square.

He is seen holding a cross in solidarity with Christians, something conservative Islamists typically do not do
