Ambassador of Sweden to paid his introductory courtesy call on Foreign Secretary 

The newly appointed Ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh H.E. Mr. Nicolas Weeks paid his introductory courtesy call on Foreign Secretary Ambassador Mr. Jashim Uddin at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this morning.

The Foreign Secretary congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and thanked the Swedish Government for their support to the Interim Government. He highlighted Bangladesh’s principled position in support of peace amid the complex dynamics of the present world. The Foreign Secretary emphasised the deep-rooted and valuable relationship between Bangladesh and Sweden, recognising the comprehensive cooperation that has flourished over the years.

The Swedish Ambassador expressed Sweden’s commitment to support Bangladesh in the areas of green transition, and artificial intelligence, among others. He reiterated Sweden’s eagerness to enhance collaboration in sustainable development, as well as the Swedish business presence in Bangladesh. The Foreign Secretary welcomed the Swedish Government’s support.

The Foreign Secretary acknowledged the Swedish humanitarian assistance for the forcibly displaced Myanmar Nationals temporarily sheltered in Bangladesh and stressed on the need for their early, voluntary and sustainable repatriation to their homeland. Both sides shared optimism about the future of bilateral relations, and increased collaboration through political consultation in the coming years.

The Foreign Secretary assured the Ambassador of full cooperation during his tenure of duty in Bangladesh.
