Bangabandhu Satellite-1 will cover the replacement cost from its own income

Foreign Minister Dr. said that the company’s income from Bangabandhu Satellite-1 can meet the cost of replacing the satellite. Hasan Mahmud.

He gave this information in the speech of the chief guest at the event organized by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 at the Dhaka Club in the capital on Sunday evening, connected via virtual means from Cox’s Bazar.

Note that the average lifespan of satellites in the current world is 15 years. As a result it has to be replaced during this period. The Foreign Minister said that the construction and launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 has cost 2765 crores. It should be replaced by 2034. And at the rate at which BSCL is earning, it will be able to acquire the capacity to replace the satellites by nowAt that time, referring to the necessary activities to launch the country’s next satellite ‘Bangabandhu Satellite-2’ into space, the minister said that Bangabandhu Satellite-2 will be an earth observatory or earth monitoring satellite. Through this, the door of research on the landscape, rivers and seas will be opened in Bangladesh and we will take a few more steps towards taking the full benefits of the Blue Economy.

The minister described the success of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited in conducting the technical and commercial activities of satellites in six years as commendable. He said that all the TV channels of the country, 26 foreign channels and the only DTH service of the country ‘Akash DTH’ are being broadcast through Bangabandhu Satellite-1. Telecommunication network through satellite has been established in remote and inaccessible areas especially hilly, coastal, remote and island areas.

Referring to his previous tenure, External Affairs Minister Hasan said, “I entrusted BSCL with launching an effective Television Rating Point (TRP) system when I was Minister of Information and Broadcasting, which they effectively implemented, which I had the privilege of inaugurating.” .’

In this regard, the minister also said that through this TRP, which channel is currently being watched on which television by a customer, for how long is it being watched, all these data are being mathematically analyzed and the information about the popularity of the television channels is being provided to the service users.
