Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Hold Bilateral Talks with Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo on October 27

DHAKA — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to hold a bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo on October 27, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, deepening economic partnerships, and accelerating Japanese investment in Bangladesh.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam announced the itinerary during a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, detailing the Prime Minister’s official visit scheduled to commence on October 26.

The official trip comes at the direct invitation of the Japanese Prime Minister, with formal and coordinated announcements issued simultaneously from Dhaka and Tokyo on Tuesday.

Outlining the schedule, the Foreign Secretary stated that the Prime Minister will lead the high-level Bangladeshi delegation during the formal bilateral talks at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tokyo on the second day of the visit, October 27. Following the summit, Prime Minister Takaichi will host an official luncheon in honor of the visiting Bangladeshi leader.

Diplomatic and working teams from both nations are finalizing drafts of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and cooperation pacts covering key sectors, including agriculture, fisheries, human resource development, skill training, domestic civil aviation, bilateral trade, environmental conservation, and local government modernization.

“We anticipate that a number of MoUs will be signed during the visit,” Siam noted, emphasizing that the mission provides a timely and strategic platform to solidify the existing partnership and broaden mutual collaboration.

The Foreign Secretary also highlighted that the signing of the landmark Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) in February 2026 has already unlocked fresh avenues for expanding two-way trade and private investment between the two nations.
