September 23:The international community is closely following Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the United States. There are expectations that, under the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries, China-US relations will develop in a healthier, more stable and sustainable manner, bringing greater peace, prosperity and progress to the world.
Recently, President Xi Jinping replied to a letter from young students from 10 US universities who had come to China to participate in China-US youth exchange programs. In his letter, Xi expressed the hope that they would make unremitting efforts to work together with a large number of young people from both countries to become inheritors, protectors and promoters of China-US friendship and cooperation.
The US students said they were extremely delighted to receive Xi Jinping’s reply. At the same time, they expressed hope that Xi’s visit to the United States would help further advance relations between the two countries.
Axton Berry, a student at Columbia University in the United States, said, “I am extremely grateful to President Xi Jinping for the initiative to send 50,000 American young people to China for exchanges and study over five years. This initiative has given us the opportunity to visit China and learn about its culture and social development. We wanted to write a letter to President Xi Jinping to express our gratitude and share our experiences and feelings from our exchanges and studies in China. At the same time, we are also willing to contribute to friendly exchanges between the people of the two countries.”
Rowan, a student at American University, said, “President Xi replied to our letter, which made us extremely happy. I can feel that he is committed to building a more beautiful future for both countries.”
Tahina Zero, a teacher at the same university, said, “President Xi Jinping’s letter made me realize how important people-to-people communication and exchanges are to China-US relations. Exchanges among young people, in particular, are extremely important to relations between the two countries. The exchange program has given us an opportunity to understand China and build friendship.”
People from various sectors in the United States said that head-of-state diplomacy plays an important role in providing strategic leadership for China-US relations. They also expressed hope that the leaders of the two countries would reach greater consensus on bilateral cooperation and various global issues.
Adam Foster, Chairman of the Helen Foster Snow Foundation in the United States, said, “I am looking forward to President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States. During President Trump’s visit to China in May this year, the leaders of the two countries said in their discussions that cooperation should be prioritized in China-US relations, competition should be limited, differences should be managed, and peace should be hoped for. I believe the leaders of the two countries will find a way to improve their relations. I am optimistic about the prospects for the development of China-US relations.”
Anthony Moretti, an associate professor at Robert Morris University in the United States, said, “A face-to-face meeting between the leaders of two major countries such as the United States and China will be a moment that attracts global attention. The reciprocal visits by the leaders of the two countries within a six-month period from May to September this year are undoubtedly significant. If relations between the two major countries remain stable, it will have positive and far-reaching effects for both countries and the world.”
People from various countries said that China-US relations influence the trajectory of the global situation. A healthy, stable and sustainable China-US relationship is also consistent with the shared expectations of the international community.
