KATHMANDU, August 30, 2026: The number of foreign tourists reported missing after devastating flash floods in several parts of Nepal continues to rise, with hundreds of people from different countries still unaccounted for, according to updates from government agencies and Nepal Police.
Indian nationals make up the largest group among the missing foreign citizens, while tourists from China, the United States, Ukraine, Malaysia, Australia, Britain, Canada and several other countries are also reported missing.
Several foreign ministries have issued updates on the whereabouts of their citizens following the floods, while figures released by Nepal Police have provided additional details on missing foreign nationals.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, at least 275 Indian nationals are missing in Nepal following the floods. This is currently the highest reported number of missing foreign nationals from any single country.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that approximately 100 Chinese nationals remain unaccounted for. Authorities are working to establish their whereabouts following the disaster.
The United States has also reported a significant number of missing citizens. According to the U.S. Department of State, 90 American nationals are currently unaccounted for, with efforts underway to locate them in coordination with local authorities.
Nepal Police said 62 Ukrainian nationals have been missing since the floods struck. A large group of Malaysian tourists is also reported missing. According to officials, 51 Malaysian tourists travelling with Fish Tail Tours and Travels have yet to be located.
Australia’s Assistant Minister for Immigration said 43 Australian nationals remain missing. Australian authorities are maintaining contact with the affected families while working to determine the whereabouts of their citizens.
The number of missing British nationals is also significant. Nepal Police has reported 33 British citizens missing. However, China’s state broadcaster CCTV reported that another 15 British nationals were missing in Tibet. It remains unclear how many, if any, of those 15 individuals are included in the Nepal-related missing persons figures.
Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported that 30 Canadian nationals remain unaccounted for in Nepal following the floods.
Meanwhile, several tourists from South Korea, South Africa, Portugal, the Netherlands and New Zealand are also reportedly missing, according to various sources. Precise figures for the missing nationals of these countries have not yet been released.
Search and rescue operations remain underway across flood-affected areas of Nepal. Rescue teams are searching potential locations, gathering information and working to trace people whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The figures released by different governments and Nepalese authorities vary because they are based on separate reporting and verification processes. Nevertheless, the available information indicates that a large number of foreign tourists remain missing following the floods.
As rescue and identification efforts continue, the number of missing people could change as authorities verify reports, establish contact with stranded tourists and account for previously uncontactable individuals.
