Key Article by Xi Jinping to Be Published in Qiushi Magazine

An important article by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, President of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, will be published on Aug. 16 in the 16th issue of Qiushi Journal, the flagship theoretical publication of the CPC Central Committee.

The article is titled “Strengthening Capacity for Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief.”

The article emphasizes that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the CPC Central Committee has regarded natural disaster prevention, risk reduction and relief efforts as a major national priority closely linked to the safety of the people and the security of national sovereignty.

Through policy adjustments, administrative reforms, infrastructure development and capacity building, China has successfully responded to a series of major and severe natural disasters, minimizing casualties and property losses and achieving results that have received widespread international recognition.

President Xi Jinping stresses in the article that several key principles must be firmly upheld to ensure effective disaster response. Valuable experience gained over the years must be properly applied in the future and continuously enriched and modernized in line with changing circumstances.

The article also warns that China’s disaster prevention and relief efforts are currently facing new challenges and increasingly complex circumstances. Therefore, it is essential to fully recognize the critical importance of these efforts in maintaining a strategic balance between high-quality economic development and a high level of national security.

China must strengthen its existing advantages, address shortcomings and reinforce weak areas to enhance its capacity to respond to all types of natural disasters. These efforts are aimed at protecting the lives and property of the people, consolidating social stability, and ensuring the smooth advancement of Chinese modernization.
