Bangladesh and Kosovo have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic cooperation, and enhancing collaboration on regional and global issues during the Second Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Prishtina on 13 August 2026.
The Bangladeshi delegation was led by Dr. M. Nazrul Islam, Secretary (Bilateral – East & West) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Kosovar side was headed by Ilir Muçaj, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.
During the consultations, the two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the steady progress made since the establishment of diplomatic ties. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing cooperation based on mutual respect, common interests, shared values, and the principles of international law.
Both delegations identified significant untapped opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, education, agriculture, information and communication technology (ICT), tourism, labour mobility, and people-to-people exchanges. They agreed to work closely to capitalize on the complementary strengths of their respective economies for mutual benefit.
The two countries also welcomed the bilateral agreements concluded so far and underscored the importance of finalizing several instruments currently under negotiation, particularly those concerning economic cooperation, the avoidance of double taxation, and other areas of mutual interest.
Bangladesh and Kosovo reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation at both the bilateral and multilateral levels and agreed to maintain close coordination in regional and international organizations on issues of shared concern.
Highlighting their common commitment to global peace and security, both sides reiterated their strong opposition to terrorism, violent extremism, and transnational crime. The Kosovo delegation highly praised Bangladesh’s longstanding contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations and expressed gratitude to Bangladeshi peacekeepers who had served in Kosovo.
The Bangladeshi delegation welcomed Kosovo’s growing engagement with international and regional organizations and voiced support for the country’s continued integration into international institutions, conventions, and multilateral mechanisms as an equal participant.
Kosovo also commended Bangladesh’s humanitarian response to the Rohingya refugee crisis and expressed support for efforts to ensure the safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable repatriation of displaced Rohingya to Rakhine State, Myanmar. The Kosovar side emphasized the need for continued international engagement to achieve a durable solution to the crisis.
Recognizing the increasing demand for foreign workers, the two countries agreed to explore the establishment of a government-to-government (G2G) labour migration framework to facilitate the transparent, orderly, and mutually beneficial recruitment and employment of Bangladeshi workers in Kosovo.
Both sides stressed the importance of holding regular Foreign Office Consultations as an effective platform for reviewing progress, strengthening bilateral ties, and identifying new avenues of cooperation. They agreed to convene the Third Foreign Office Consultations in Dhaka in 2027 on a mutually convenient date.
The consultations concluded in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting the growing partnership between Bangladesh and Kosovo and their shared determination to further expand bilateral cooperation.
