China Showcases Groundbreaking AI Innovations at World Artificial Intelligence Conference

China unveiled a series of cutting-edge artificial intelligence innovations at this year’s World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), underscoring its accelerating technological progress and growing influence in the global AI landscape.

Among the event’s most notable announcements was the launch of Kimi K3, China’s latest large language model featuring 2.8 trillion parameters. The model is now the world’s largest open-source AI model by parameter count, marking another significant milestone in China’s rapidly advancing AI ecosystem.

In recent years, China has made artificial intelligence a national development priority, resulting in substantial improvements in its overall AI capabilities. At the same time, the country has continued to share its technological achievements and development experience with the international community, contributing to broader global AI advancement.

China’s expanding portfolio of large-scale open-source AI models reflects a coordinated strategy aimed at driving innovation while offering new technological solutions to the global AI industry.

One of the conference’s biggest highlights was the debut of Dawning 8000 (Summit), China’s first domestically developed AI supercluster powered by 100,000 GPUs. The system represents a major breakthrough, demonstrating that China’s indigenous computing infrastructure has moved beyond hardware development into large-scale deployment, commercial services, and scalable applications.

Powered by Super-Intelligent Fusion technology, Dawning 8000 departs from conventional segmented computing architectures by integrating multiple forms of computing power into a unified system. Covering more than 20 application sectors, the platform is connected to China’s National Supercomputing Internet, providing computing services to research institutions, universities, enterprises, and individual users.

The conference also featured a smart pharmacy robot capable of identifying, sorting, and dispensing medications in just 70 seconds. Equipped with environmental awareness, autonomous decision-making, and high-precision operational capabilities, the robot demonstrates how AI is transforming healthcare automation.

Driven by the continuous evolution of the “One Brain, Multiple Devices” architecture, China’s intelligent robots are becoming increasingly capable of perception, reasoning, and task execution. These robots are no longer confined to laboratories or exhibition halls. They have already been deployed in several pharmacies across Shanghai, where they assist with operations, including overnight shifts.

Another AI-powered humanoid robot attracted considerable attention during the conference. Featuring multimodal perception, long-term memory, and emotional recognition capabilities, the robot is already capable of accompanying and assisting people in a variety of everyday scenarios.

During the conference, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), together with China Media Group (CMG) and other organizations, released the Artificial Intelligence Cooperation and Development Action Plan. The initiative advocates stronger international AI cooperation, efforts to narrow the global digital divide, and support for United Nations initiatives promoting AI-enabled sustainable development.

Under the plan, China will provide 5,000 specialized AI training opportunities for developing countries over the next five years. It also plans to establish international AI application cooperation centers with regional organizations, including ASEAN, the Arab League, the African Union, CELAC, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and BRICS.

Responding to the United Nations’ Early Warnings for All initiative, China has also introduced “Mazu,” an intelligent meteorological early warning system that has become the world’s first national-level implementation plan under the UN framework. The system is expected to be deployed in 30 countries in the coming years.

Today, China has emerged as one of the world’s leading drivers of the AI revolution. The country now holds approximately 60 percent of global AI patents, reinforcing its position as a major force in technological innovation. China has also reaffirmed its commitment to providing AI-related international public goods and promoting responsible global AI governance.

The innovations unveiled at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference highlight not only the remarkable progress of China’s AI industry but also its broader vision for an AI-powered future. Beyond eye-catching demonstrations, these technological breakthroughs point toward practical applications that could reshape industries, improve public services, and accelerate the transition to intelligent societies worldwide.
