More than 10,000 China-Europe freight trains have passed through the Alashankou and Khorgos railway ports in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region so far this year, marking a record high since the launch of the rail service in 2011.
The milestone 10,000th train departed on Friday, carrying machinery and electronic products bound for Malaszewicze, Poland.
The efficiency of the two railway ports has been significantly improved through the adoption of smart technologies and streamlined customs procedures. Previously, customs clearance for imported goods took two to three days, but the process has now been reduced to less than 16 hours. Meanwhile, documentation procedures for export goods have been shortened from six hours to just one hour.
Currently, more than 50 China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight trains pass through Alashankou and Khorgos railway ports every day on average, further enhancing overland trade connectivity between China, Europe and Central Asia.
The Alashankou railway port now operates 129 train routes connecting China with 21 countries, while the Khorgos railway port has established 91 routes linking China with 18 countries.
More than 200 categories of goods are transported through the two ports, including automobile parts, machinery, electronic products and consumer goods for daily use.
The rapid growth of China-Europe freight train services has provided a faster and more efficient land-based trade channel, strengthening economic links between China and international markets.
