U.S. President Donald Trump once again raised the issue of not receiving a Nobel Prize during a speech marking the 250th anniversary of the United States at Mount Rushmore. While highlighting America’s achievements and global leadership, Trump expressed frustration, saying that despite his accomplishments, he has yet to be awarded a Nobel Prize.
Praising the United States’ contributions to innovation, science, sports, culture, and international affairs, Trump noted that Americans have won more Olympic medals and Nobel Prizes than the citizens of any other country. He then added, “But they haven’t given me one.”
Trump claimed that he had helped bring an end to “eight wars,” yet had received no recognition from the Nobel Committee. Political analysts, however, note that Trump has made similar claims repeatedly over the years and that his assertions remain the subject of debate.
According to Nobel Prize statistics, more than 420 American laureates have received Nobel Prizes across disciplines including physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, economics, and peace—more than any other nation.
Trump’s interest in the Nobel Peace Prize is not new. Since the beginning of his second term, he has publicly stated on several occasions that he believes he deserves the award. In January this year, he remarked that no one in history was more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize than he was.
The report also notes that Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. After she expressed a symbolic wish to dedicate her medal to Trump, the Nobel Committee clarified that the gesture carried no official significance and that the prize would remain solely in the name of its original recipient.
According to sources familiar with the White House cited in the report, Trump places considerable personal importance on winning the Nobel Peace Prize as recognition of his diplomatic achievements. A former aide from his first administration said Trump views the award as one of the defining honors of his political legacy.
Historically, only two sitting U.S. presidents have received the Nobel Peace Prize: Woodrow Wilson in 1920 and Barack Obama in 2009.
Meanwhile, Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, mocked Trump’s Nobel ambitions in a post on X. In a sarcastic remark, he suggested that Trump should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize because he has claimed to have ended the conflict with Iran “at least 38 times,” adding that no president in history has declared the same war over so many times.
