At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting in the Coney Island neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, on the night of the United States’ 250th Independence Day celebrations, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
Citing Reuters, ABC News reported that police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 10:37 p.m. local time on Saturday (July 4) in the area of West 31st Street in Brooklyn.
According to police, the victims include two men, two women, and four children aged 6, 7, 12, and 14. All of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Authorities said a 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition, while the other seven victims are in stable condition and receiving treatment.
Police have launched an investigation and secured the area following the shooting. Investigators recovered a firearm at the scene, but no arrests have been made so far.
Officials have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, and authorities continue efforts to identify and locate those responsible.
