Emergency warning sirens sounded across several areas of central and southern Israel after multiple missiles were launched from Iran, escalating tensions in the region.
In a statement released on Monday, the Israeli military said its air defense systems were activated immediately after the missiles were detected. Efforts were made to intercept the incoming projectiles, while authorities closely monitored the situation in and around Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other parts of the country.
Sirens were also heard in East Jerusalem and across large areas of the West Bank. Local sources reported hearing several powerful explosions in the sky, believed to be linked to missile interception operations.
The latest exchange follows heightened tensions triggered by an Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s Dahiyeh district. Following that incident, several senior Iranian officials had signaled the possibility of retaliatory action.
According to reports from international media outlets, approximately 10 missiles were launched toward Israel in several waves beginning overnight. The attacks prompted extended missile alerts in a number of northern Israeli cities as well.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military claimed that it had carried out retaliatory air operations against several military sites in western and central Iran in response to the missile launches.
Authorities have not yet released comprehensive information regarding casualties or damage, and the situation remains fluid as developments continue to unfold.
