The United States has carried out fresh strikes inside Iran, targeting several radar installations on Qeshm Island and in the coastal area of Gorouk in the country’s south. In response, Iran launched missile attacks on US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, according to reports by Al Jazeera.
According to the US military, Tehran fired seven ballistic missiles toward the American facilities. Six of the missiles were successfully intercepted, while the remaining missile failed to reach its intended target.
Hours earlier, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had shot down Iranian drones heading toward the Strait of Hormuz and conducted strikes against several Iranian radar sites.
CENTCOM stated that no US personnel were injured in the Iranian attacks. Washington also rejected Iranian claims that the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain had been damaged.
A temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran took effect on April 8, but diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a permanent agreement have yet to produce a breakthrough. Although the truce remains formally in place, sporadic clashes between the two sides have continued in recent weeks.
With the support of international mediators, negotiations between Washington and Tehran are still underway in an effort to secure a long-term and sustainable resolution to the conflict that began on February 28.
