Iran has reiterated that it remains firmly committed to its long-standing position regarding the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that no part of the strategic waterway constitutes an “international maritime boundary.”
According to Iranian authorities, the waters of the Strait of Hormuz fall solely within the territorial maritime zones of Iran and Oman. Tehran therefore maintains that management and control of the strategically vital passage should remain exclusively in the hands of the two neighboring countries.
Iranian officials said two rounds of technical discussions on the issue have already taken place between Tehran and Muscat. However, Oman continues to recognize the Strait of Hormuz as an international maritime route, while Iran remains steadfast in rejecting that interpretation.
Tehran has further stated that even in the event of a future peace agreement or regional settlement, it intends to retain control over its position in the Strait of Hormuz.
The issue has increasingly emerged as a major source of tension among parties involved in ongoing regional conflicts, given the strategic importance of the waterway for global energy transportation and international shipping.
