China Expresses Concern Over Syria’s Security at the UN

China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, said at an open session of the UN Security Council on Syria held on Wednesday that it is essential to ensure that conflicts in the Middle East do not negatively affect Syria’s security and stability. Fu Cong noted that tensions in the Middle East remain high, with their spillover effects increasingly spreading, further complicating Syria’s already fragile situation.

He described the current regional landscape as being at a critical juncture between war and peace. China urged all relevant parties to seize opportunities for peace, exercise maximum restraint, and engage with sincerity in political and diplomatic efforts to resolve differences, with the aim of achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire. He also called on the international community to work collectively to prevent further escalation of the conflict in the region.

He further stated that China supports integrating Syria into the global economic system to help restore its capacity for development. He called on relevant parties to increase humanitarian assistance to Syria and to make greater contributions toward meeting urgent humanitarian needs. Fu Cong also noted that Israel’s attacks in southern Syria constitute a violation of international law and should be stopped immediately. Source: China Media Group.
