Call to Accelerate Global South Development Through Digital Technology

The third high-level meeting of the Global Shared Development Action Forum concluded on Wednesday in Beijing. The event brought together over 600 representatives from more than 140 countries and international and regional organizations, participating both online and in person. Chen Dongxiao, head of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, attended the closing ceremony and delivered a speech. Chen Dongxiao said that since the first meeting of the forum, China has been actively working with relevant developing partners to implement the consensus reached.

So far, more than 180 projects have been launched, of which 90 percent have been completed, while the remaining initiatives are progressing steadily. He noted that practical cooperation has deepened further, with over 50 bilateral agreements signed, and the global development cooperation framework becoming increasingly robust. He further stated that the third high-level meeting, held on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative, served as a meaningful platform linking earlier and subsequent consensuses. With the world entering the final phase of implementing the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, participating countries discussed key issues such as “digital empowerment for Global South modernization,” “enhancing climate resilience in developing countries,” and “financing for sustainable development.” All parties agreed that digital technology should be leveraged to accelerate the development of the Global South, that countries should jointly shoulder responsibility in promoting green and low-carbon industrial transformation, and that a fair, open, efficient, and stable financing system must be established.

The meeting also released the List of Outcomes under the Initiative for a Shared Future, focusing on 50 practical consensuses across eight major areas of the Global Development Initiative. The outcomes aim to advance platforms, mobilize resources, and promote action-oriented cooperation to support global development and shared prosperity. Source: China Media Group
