On April 14, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during his official visit to China. During the meeting, President Xi stated that the United Arab Emirates is a comprehensive strategic partner of China, and that China has always attached great importance to developing relations with the UAE. Through joint efforts, bilateral relations have maintained a sound and stable development momentum, with deepening political mutual trust, steady progress in practical cooperation, and increasingly rich and diversified cultural exchanges.
Strengthening and advancing China–UAE relations is a shared consensus of both sides and aligns with the aspirations of both peoples. China, he added, stands ready to work with the UAE to build a stronger, more resilient, and more dynamic comprehensive strategic partnership. The two sides also exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region. Xi Jinping emphasized China’s principled position in promoting peace talks and reiterated that China will continue to play a constructive role in this regard. He put forward four proposals to promote peace and stability in the Middle East: first, adhere to the principle of peaceful coexistence; second, uphold respect for national sovereignty; third, follow the rule of international law; and fourth, ensure coordination between development and security. Sheikh Khaled said that UAE–China relations have a long history and a solid foundation. The two countries have always respected and trusted each other and share broad common interests. The UAE attaches great importance to its relations with China and is willing to work with China to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen cooperation in various fields, and further broaden the prospects of bilateral relations for the benefit of both peoples.
