Russian Missile Strike Hits Dnipro, At Least Five Killed and Dozens Injured

A Russian missile strike on the central-eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro has left at least five people dead and 27 others injured, according to local authorities. The total casualty figure has risen to at least 32. The attack took place on Tuesday, shortly after Ukraine’s air force issued warnings of an incoming missile targeting the city. Explosions were heard around 11:30 a.m. local time, prompting emergency responses across affected areas. By early afternoon, regional officials reported that 21 injured victims had been hospitalized, with 10 in critical condition. Later updates confirmed the death of a 40-year-old man, raising the toll to five fatalities. Authorities said civilians were caught in the open and inside vehicles during the strike. Several residential and civilian infrastructure sites were damaged, along with multiple vehicles. A nearby gas station was also hit, triggering a fire, emergency services confirmed. The attack came shortly after the end of a temporary Easter ceasefire declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 9. Despite the announcement, Ukrainian military officials reported widespread violations during the ceasefire period, claiming more than 10,000 breaches by Russian forces. On the same day, Russian forces also launched glide bomb attacks on critical infrastructure in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said six bombs targeted the Pechenihy dam area in Chuhuiv district, a key water reservoir facility. According to Ukraine’s 16th Army Corps, four bombs struck land near the water facility while two fell into the reservoir. The dam itself was not damaged, though officials warned the attack appeared deliberately timed during peak water levels, which could have triggered severe flooding if successful. The governor also reported the use of Iranian-designed “Shahed” drones and “Molniya” drones in coordinated strikes on the Kharkiv region.
