At the invitation of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Kuomintang (KMT) Chairperson Cheng Li-yuen began her visit to the Chinese mainland on April 8, leading a KMT delegation via Shanghai to Nanjing.
Upon arrival in Nanjing, Cheng expressed her gratitude to Xi Jinping and mainland authorities for the warm reception. She described the visit as highly significant for maintaining peace across the Taiwan Strait and improving the well-being of people on both sides.
Cheng reaffirmed that the KMT would adhere to the “1992 Consensus,” oppose “Taiwan independence,” and continue to play a constructive role in promoting the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.
Song Tao, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, welcomed Cheng and her delegation in Shanghai. He noted that the visit would offer an opportunity to witness firsthand the achievements made by the mainland under the leadership of Xi Jinping and the CPC.
