Necessary Measures Will Be Taken to Protect Legitimate Rights and Interests

A spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Commerce addressed questions from journalists regarding the sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom on Chinese companies. The spokesperson stated that necessary measures will be taken to safeguard China’s legitimate rights and interests.

When asked by a journalist, “On 24 February, the UK Foreign Office announced new sanctions against Russia, affecting several Chinese companies. What is China’s position on this matter?” the spokesperson replied:

“The United Kingdom has repeatedly imposed sanctions on Chinese companies under the pretext of involvement with Russia. These measures have no basis under international law and constitute unilateral sanctions taken without United Nations authorization. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to these actions.

Regarding the Ukraine crisis, China has consistently and strictly regulated the export of dual-use goods in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Therefore, interference with or impact on normal exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Russian enterprises is unjustified.

Considering the positive trajectory of China-UK relations, China urges the United Kingdom to promptly correct its erroneous behavior and lift the sanctions imposed on the relevant Chinese enterprises. China will take all necessary measures to firmly protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.”
